Radford University’s new Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity (CAIC) is set to begin construction in Radford, Va.. The $80.5 million, 177,917-sf project will replace the existing space for the College of Visual and Performing Arts and create interdisciplinary student spaces.
The Center is the largest capital construction project in the university’s history in terms of both total project funding and square footage. The building will include a 475-seat performing arts theatre auditorium, fashion and design labs, health sciences clinical labs, painting and drawing studios, music and dance studios, maker and printer spaces, virtual and augmented reality labs, offices, classrooms, and collaboration spaces.
The various spaces will allow for the cross-disciplinary collaboration of educational programs in the arts, health sciences, and technology. Skanska has been selected to build the CAIC with construction slated to begin in June 2021. Completion is expected by 2023.
