Moshe Safdie’s Jewel Changi Airport is a planned addition of 1.4 million sf to Singapore’s Changi Airport, Dezeen reports.

“This project redefines and reinvents what airports are all about,” Boston-based Safdie told Dezeen. How so exactly? By creating a public gathering space where, in Safdie’s words, “the people of Singapore interact with the people of the world,” with retail, leisure, and entertainment facilities.

Jewel Changi is an all-glass, stadium-shaped space with the top-center of the ceiling plunging slightly inward, releasing a gush of water through an oculus. Surrounding the pool and waterfall in the center of the terminal are dozens of businesses, shaded under the verdant garden that turns the glass structure into a greenhouse.

Flight passengers in transit and local visitors alike can make use of the many walking trails that wind through the indoor garden.

The Jewel Changi will be nestled behind three terminals of the existing airport, and is slated to open in late 2018.
