Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington has selected Hensel Phelps Construction Company to lead the design-build team for the Wesley Brown Field House at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. HKS Inc., Dallas, and Shalom Baranes Architects of Washington, D.C., are the sport facility design architect and exterior design architect, respectively. Named after Lt. Cmdr. Wesley Brown, USN (ret.), the first African-American midshipman to graduate from the Naval Academy (in 1949), the field house's 140,000-sf, approximately $45 million structure will house world-class facilities for physical education, varsity and intramural athletics, club sports, and personal fitness. Design and construction of the project, which broke ground in March, is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2008.
