RJC Architects, a local architecture and planning firm, announced the award of a $50-million contract to design and build the third phase of the Force Intelligence Operations Center at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. RJC Architects, in partnership with Straub Construction Inc. of Bonsall, CA, will demolish some existing structures and provide approximately 146,000 square feet of new facilities for the Radio, Intelligence and 9th Communication Battalions.
Constructed within the headquarters area of Camp Pendleton, the expansive design/build project includes: a communications headquarters building and training facility with classrooms, martial arts training area, men's and women's shower facilities and administrative offices; a communications CEM facility for five platoons and support personnel for maintaining and storing electronic communications equipment; an Intelligence academic instruction facility with two multipurpose classrooms with movable partitions and a language lab; and an Intelligence armory facility to house weapons and gear.
"This ambitious project will unify and integrate new facilities to enhance the synergy of operations for all Battalions within the compound," said Juan Silva, project manager for RJC Architects."We've designed larger facilities to maximize efficiency and functionality in a timeless and dignified manner appropriately signifying the command presence on this important site."
Design consultants include CTE Civil Engineering, SMR Structural Engineers, EPI Electrical Engineers, DSE Mechanical Engineering, Kathleen Killman Interior Design, and GMH Architects for the armory design.
In addition to the Force Intelligence Operations Center, RJC Architects also is currently designing the $54-million Marine Corps Special Operations Headquarters and $15-million lodging facility, both at Camp Pendleton.
