World's first suspended bicycle roundabout [slideshow]

Located in the Netherlands, the project was designed to promote a healthier lifestyle.

By BD+C Staff | February 11, 2014

Dutch architecture firm Ipv Delft has designed the world's first suspended bicycle roundabout.

Located between localities of Eindhoven, Veldhoven and Meerhoven in the Netherlands, the bicycle track is made from 1,000 tons of steel, a 230-foot-tall central pylon, and 24 steel cables.

According to Freshome.com, the project was designed to promote a healthier lifestyle.

There is a circular counterweight connected to the bridge deck, and all cables are attached to the inner side of that bridge deck. This prevents torsion within the deck.

Check out all the different angles of the track below:

The roundabout is located between Eindhoven, Veldhoven and Meerhoven.

The bridge features a 230-ft. tall central pylon.

The roundabout can be entered from four tracks.
