Construction of the Maj. Gen. Harry George Armstrong Complex at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base was completed by the Archer Western Butt Joint Venture, a design-build partnership of Archer Western Contractors of Chicago-based Walsh Group, and Butt Construction Co., Dayton, Ohio.

The academic-style facility supports education/training and research functions, and contains classrooms, auditoriums, laboratories, administrative offices and library facilities, as well as spaces for operating highly sophisticated training equipment. Expansion and renovation of an existing vivarium and the construction of a pre-engineered entomology building were also part of the $220 million project scope.

The 680,000-sf complex, which consists of two main buildings and ancillary facilities, represents the largest construction project at the base since World War II. Built as a fast-track project to meet Base Realignment and Closure program requirements, the facility serves the 711th Human Performance Wing of the Air Force Research Laboratory, as well as is home to the Naval Medical Research Unit – Dayton.
