HED, PCL Construction, and the County of San Diego have broken ground on the new 16,800-sf Lakeside Branch Library in Lakeside, Calif. The library is designed to meet Zero Net Energy building standards.
The project features enhanced program elements that include a 2,000-sf community room that can be used for classes, library activities, and meeting space for local organizations and businesses; designated spaces for all age groups; state-of-the-art technology, and an outdoor reading area.
The Lakeside Branch Library is seeking LEED Gold certification and a lIving Building Challenge Zero Net Energy petal certification. It is slated to open to the public in the summer of 2022.

The 122,600-sf facility, which opened in January 2008, certainly benefits from amenities that the old 40,000-sf library didn't have—electronic check-in and check-out, new computers, an onsite coffeehouse.
