The solar energy industry will come together Sept. 10ā13 when Solar Power International 2012 (SPI '12) opens in Orlando Fla.Taking place at the Orange County Convention Center, SPI ā12 is a business-to-business global solar conference and expo for professionals in solar energy and related fields. ?
Presented by the Solar Energy Industries Association and the Solar Electric Power Association, SPI '12 features over 1,200 international and U.S. exhibitors and is expected to bring more than 21,000 attendees from 125 countries. President Bill Clinton will deliver a keynote address on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
In addition, SPI '12 offers a comprehensive conference program with approximately 40 sessions in six tracks: Finance, Markets, Policy, Technology, Grid and Transmission Planning, and In the Field. Topics include: new financing projects, policy initiative and changes that affect solar, avenues of opportunity in new markets, and technologies beyond PV and CSP, such as micro-inverters, central inverters and power optimizers.
SPIās pre-conference workshop program is scheduled for Sunday and Monday, while a post-conference workshop will be held on Friday, offering in-depth classes. Back by popular demand, Solar Idea Swaps, one hour sessions facilitated by industry experts, return to SPI on Tuesday and Wednesday. Permanent tribute to Daniel Burnham and hisĀ Plan of Chicago proposed for Grant Park Museum Campus
The first-place winner of a design competition for a public memorial celebrating Daniel Burnham's impact on Chicago will be announced at a news conference Wednesday, July 8, at 10am CDT. The proposed site for the memorial is on the Museum Campus just north of The Field Museum.Ā The announcement comes after nearly two years of planning by Chicago's architecture, design and urban planning community about how to best honor the legacy of Burnham and the Plan of Chicago he co-wrote with Edward Bennett.

Architecture billings index takes turn for the worse
After showing signs of stabilization over the last three months, the Architecture Billings Index (ABI) plunged nearly five points in June. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI reflects the approximate nine to twelve month lag time between architecture billings and construction spending. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) reported the June ABI rating was 37.7, far lower than the 42.9 the previous month.
