LA warehouse/office has no windows, no problems

At A-1 Cold Storage's 8,000-sf warehouse and 4,000-sf office near Los Angeles, Ciralight's SunTracker One natural light tubes pour in so much daylight that electric lighting can be turned completely off. A-1 is an around-the-clock warehouse handling company that specializes in caring for imported perishable items such as fruits, meat, fish, pharmaceuticals, and flowers. The light tubes allow the company to turn off all fluorescent lamps daily at 9 a.m. and switch them on at 5 p.m.

“When we moved in, we thought we might have to punch holes in the concrete walls to let in light,” said Gary Bull, president of A-1 Cold Storage. “But the (daylight) units made that unnecessary.”

Bull chose Ciralight, in part because of the system's sun tracking feature. The system can capture and redirect more low-level and angled sun using a patented mirror array. The mirrors redirect the daylight down through the system's tube. Bull estimated that the system saves the company $1,000 a month in lighting expenses.
