npp7The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture recently completed construction on the Wells Fargo Cultural Campus in Charlotte, N.C. Designed by the Freelon Group, Durham, N.C., with Batson-Cook's Atlanta office as project manager, the $18.8 million project achieved nearly 100% minority participation. The museum's exterior is designed to evoke a quilt, with a curtain wall and stucco façade of swatches intersected by metal seaming. Gallery, presentation, and function space are included within the 46,500-sf facility. A highlight of the building's interior is an ornate, two-story staircase called “Jacob's Ladder.”
