Milwaukee Intermodal Station receives Mayor's Urban Design Award

Mayor Tom Barrett honored the Milwaukee Intermodal Station, designed by Greg Uhen of Eppstein Uhen Architects, Milwaukee, with a 2007 Mayor's Urban Design Award in the “Best Face Forward” category.

EUA worked with Milwaukee Intermodal Partners and the city to transform an outdated Amtrak station into a multi-modal transit facility. While it looks like a brand new building, the station was renovated by simply removing the skin of the old structure.

The new atrium, which spans the full length, width, and height of the structure, extended the building 30 feet north and added 7,500 sf of space to create a three-story glass waiting area. The 50-foot-high room features crisscrossing white beams and a glass curtain wall.
