Portola Valley, a town of 4,500 in San Mateo County, Calif., has a new town center. Siegel & Strain Architects, with Goring & Straja Architects, both of Emeryville, designed a multipurpose center on the 11-acre site: a town hall, a library, a community hall for meetings and classes, playing fields, a plaza, and a “performance lawn.” The project, which used reclaimed wood from old school buildings on the site, will seek LEED Platinum status from the USGBC.
