A showcase for Seattle’s Living Building Pilot Program35 Stone is a neighborhood-focused workplace and retail center that supports health and wellness while celebrating the city’s origins with a mass timber framework and industrial-inspired form. Metal wall and roofing panels from The Bryer Company supported the building meeting rigorous energy and water reductions—a requirement of the Living Building Pilot Program, which gives additional area and height to buildings in exchange—especially when it came to capturing and directing rainwater. A “hard shell” form created from 22-gauge, 12-inch TBC-Superseam roof panel for the sloping roof transforms to exterior siding, including 22-gauge, 12-inch TBC-Ultra and 0.32-inch aluminum 7/8 Corrugated wall panels, while concealing an integrated gutter system. The end result is the building saves more than 50% of water compared to a typical commercial propery in the city, and the standing seam metal paneling with curtainwall glazing serve as a big part of the visual identity of the project.
