Guardian Glass SunGuard SNX 62/27 | High-Performance Glazing for Sustainable Office Buildings

By Guardian Glass

Performance was as important as the aesthetic for the nine-story Cascadian mixed-use office building façade where the vertical concept relied heavily on the glass and achieved LEED Platinum certification, so Guardian SunGuard SNX 62/27 triple-silver coating on UltraClear and clear glass played a big part in both aspects. With a striking aesthetic of alternating vertical spandrel and vision glass, the open, flexible office space capitalizes on daylighting, which the triple-silver coating on UltraClear glass helps by managing the solar heat gain. It offers a 64% visible light transmittance with a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.27, all with the clarity that comes with a low-iron substrate.

Vitro Architectural Glass Solarban R100 and 72 Acuity | Energy-Efficient Glazing for Mixed-Use Towers

By Vitro Architectural Glass

The concept for the 16-story One River North mixed-use tower in the River North District was to collapse the distance between residents and the nearby Rocky Mountains, while a “canyon” of more than 13,000 square feet of landscaped terraces curve through its four middle floors and façade to blur the boundaries between nature and architecture. To help deliver the building’s connection to nature, the project team selected Solarban glass paired with the Reliance Series curtainwall system by Oldcastle Building Envelope, which wound up being fabricated in five different sizes to accomplish the design vision. Solarban R100 Acuity glass was chosen for the majority of the tower for its neutral tone and high reflectivity, delivering a low visible light transmission (VLT) of 43% to draw the focus away from the interior and enable the canyon to stand out. Solarban 72 Acuity glass was used for the podium, retail storefronts, residential patios and access points to outdoor amenity spaces, with the goal of visually recessing from the primary façade while maximizing daylight transmission; the glass lends a high VLT of 67%.

Schweiss Doors Beaverdam Reservoir Park Boathouse | Custom Bifold Doors for Public Recreation Facilities

By Schweiss Doors

As part of the creation of a new park with upgraded amenities at the Beaverdam reservoir, a dedicated boathouse was constructed to provide shell storage and facilities for approximately six school rowing teams from about February through May, and Schweiss Doors helped with maximizing the space to fit as many teams as possible. The project architect specifically sought a door that could be customized to work with the building’s vision and have minimal interior impact, so the eight incorporated bifold doors—four on each side of the building and each measuring 12 feet, 2 ½ inches by 9 feet, 3 inchesfolding outward became an essential design element to help with maneuvering the rowing shells in and out. Additionally, the doors are engineered to hold the building’s exterior thermal spruce wood siding and interior polycarbonate, and include side-latch switches, electric photo eye sensors and emergency back-up hand cranks.
