The DFW Grand Hyatt under construction at Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport will be the only Grand Hyatt property to be located at an airport when it opens in early 2005. Designed by Dallas-based HKS, Inc., the hotel will be an integral part of the new International Terminal project. Austin Commercial, also of Dallas, is general contractor for the 298-room facility.

As Virginia's first comprehensive agreement for a public-private school building program, Haskell/Hess P3 Schools, a joint venture of based The Haskell Co., Jacksonville, Fla., and Gaithersburg, Md.-based Hess Construction Co. has been selected by Stafford County, Va., to deliver two elementary schools and a high school. A revenue component of the agreement involves the sale of 28 acres of land to a developer, who will, in turn, build a revenue-producing retirement community.

The new 97,000-sq.-ft. county government building in San Luis Obispo, Calif., will be constructed of cast-in-place concrete from the garage level through the third story, with the fourth level utilizing a structural steel frame. Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz of San Francisco designed the $24 million building. Rochelle, N.J.-based Kajima Construction Services is the GC. Construction is scheduled to finish in early 2004.

The 166,000-sq.-ft. first phase of Gaslamp, a San Diego retail/residential development, is designed to integrate with its namesake city district by incorporating its corniced and columned architecture. Nadel Architects of Los Angeles is the architect. San Francisco-based Swinerton Builders is the general contractor for the $18.5 million project, which is scheduled for completion next spring.
