Real estate firm Reckson saves $1.25 million annually from green upgrades
Reckson, a division of SL Green Realty Corp., recently reached LEED Gold for its 384,000 sf, 12-story headquarters in downtown White Plains, NY for energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable operations. That’s a rare distinction for commercial office buildings in New York. The 40-year-old building is one of only 10 buildings in the state to reach the gold level for operations and maintenance improvements.
Since 2009, green building retrofits at its suburban buildings collectively have saved the company about $1.25 million annually, a company official said. “We see sustainability as a tool to help make this business stronger,” the official said. Up next: a change to light-emitting diode lighting estimated to save about $300,000 yearly across the company’s suburban portfolio with a payback of less than two years.
