Racing-themed ceilings get green flag at NASCAR Hall of Fame

Sept. 14, 2010

Using standard USG products, the Building Team for the $200 million NASCAR Hall of Fame and accompanying 19-story office tower in Charlotte, N.C., have lent a sense of speed and excitement to architect Pei Cobb Freed and Partners’ racing-themed ceilings. Design elements include an oval-shaped “speedway” ribbon that wraps around the exterior and a 40-foot-high metal ceiling that is a gesture to the victory flag. The Building Team also included Leslie A. Robertson Associates, structural engineer; McCracken & Lopez, P.A., mechanical engineer; and Turner BE&K Davis as joint venture contractor. The NASCAR complex opened last May.
