Coconut-palm flooring, wallcovering

Aug. 11, 2010

Plank flooring, plywood, and woven wall panels are made from 100% coconut-palm lumber that comes from reclaimed logs that are a byproduct of a palm plantation primarily devoted to the production of coconuts. Durapalm products are manufactured using urea-formaldehyde-free adhesives and contribute points toward LEED Credit EQ 4.4, Low-Emitting Materials, Composite Wood. Coconut palms are typically productive for up to 60 years, when coconut harvest diminishes to the point that replacing the palm becomes practical. Smith & Fong purchases older, non-productive palms directly from coconut farmers and harvests the wood into a variety of flooring, plywood, and woven wall panel products.
