LEDs save energy for new headquarters

Aug. 11, 2010

When building its new 60,000-sf manufacturing facility in Oconomowoc, Wis., Sentry Equipment Corp. installed Cree LEDs for nearly all its outdoor and several indoor applications. The decision to use LEDs over incandescents, fluorescents, and metal halide lights has paid off since the August 2007 completion. The LEDs have burned more than 60% less energy. Payback for the installation costs will be covered in only 1.3 years due to energy savings, not to mention other benefits such as reduced maintenance and disposal costs, as well as higher-quality light. An installation of LEDs in the parking lot is already saving the company $500 a year in energy, not including maintenance savings.

In the words of Sentry CEO Mike Ferrell: “Why build a brand-new building that represents the future of my company with old Thomas Edison bulbs? Both the economics and logic for using LED lighting are working well for Sentry.”
