Former baseball great Cal Ripken to help design ballparks

August 11, 2010

First he broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive game streak, now long-time baseball great Cal Ripken Jr., now retired, will test his hand at designing professional ballparks. Ripken has formed Ripken Management & Design, a Lutherville, Md.-based management consulting and design services firm that will assist municipalities and organizations wishing to bring professional baseball to their communities.

The firm will combine the unique experience of Cal Ripken Jr. with the talents of Kansas City-based architectural firm Heinlein Schrock Stearns to create "Ripken Signature Baseball Stadiums." Brad Schrock is formerly with St. Louis-based HOK, where he served as the lead architect for Colorado’s Coors Field.

The scope of services that Ripken Management & Design is able to provide includes:
* Ballpark design.
* An overall sales and marketing plan.
* Economic impact and feasibility studies.
* Field design, construction and maintenance.

Ripken Management & Design has already been in discussions with several municipalities, including Daytona Beach, Fla., which is planning to refurbish historic Jackie Robinson Stadium.
