The Royal Shakespeare Company hired Bennetts Associates Architects to revamped England’s renowned Royal Shakespeare theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The architects created a one-room space for performing Shakespeare, giving the new 1,040-seat theatre a thrust stage that projects the action deep into the auditorium. The audience sits around it in stalls and galleries, in conscious imitation of the courtyards and high-sided theatres where Shakespearean drama was first performed.
