Office Building Design

No longer marked by gray, uniform rows of cubicles, offices have become more personalized and employee-centric than ever, giving people a more comfortable place to spend their working hours. New approaches to office customization and the way employees interact are breathing new life into the workplace.

In addition to BIM modeling, the Building Team used a COBiE-based Integrated Workplace Management System usually reserved for government projects.

Over 1,000 employees will work in the HQ building when completed.

Completed in May 2016, the 131,000-sf headquarters for the law firm Stoel Rives is located on the top nine floors of the Park Avenue West tower in Portland, Ore. While its conference rooms are enclosed for privacy, natural light reaches the interior spaces through the use of clear glass relights in the solid wood doors. All offices are enclosed in glass to allow natural light into the center of the plan as well as to create a more transparent, collaborative environment. Some glass doors and panels are trimmed with timber framing to match the room’s interior materials and design (pictured). The Building Team included ZGF Architects (architect, interior design), KPFF Consulting Engineers (SE), Interface Engineering (MEP), Alternatt Associates (acoustics), and Lease Crutcher Lewis (GC).
