Less than a third (29%) of contractors were using robotics on their jobsites to some degree in 2025. This year, that figure has more than doubled, according to BuiltWorlds’ recently released 2026 Annual Equipment & Robotics Benchmarking Report. 

In a survey of general and specialty contractors in the field, asking specifically about their robotics and equipment usage, 79% reported employing jobsite robotics to some degree in 2026. That rise was particularly pronounced in piloting robotics, with 32% of respondents claiming to have “piloted or trialed” a solution on at least one jobsite—compared to 2025, when that share was at 12%.  

“These systems are engineered to operate within the dynamic, often unpredictable environments of active construction sites, improving productivity, worker safety, task consistency, and overall operational efficiency,” wrote BuiltWorlds Research Director Audrey Lynch, who also authored the report, describing the motivations behind the increased usage of robotics. “As construction projects grow larger, more complex, and increasingly data-driven, demand for reliable, high-performing automation continues to rise.” 

More specifically, data showed that while reducing manual effort (63%) and addressing safety concerns (56%) continue to be key benefits driving adoption, it was the ability of robotics to improve accuracy (75%) that was the most cited.

“Accuracy's rise suggests contractors increasingly value the precision and quality gains robotics deliver, alongside labor and safety benefits,” Lynch wrote. 

In the report, users identified multiple robotic solutions being deployed across jobsites throughout the globe, but there were three that stood out for their ratings and usage. 

“FieldAI, BostonDynamics, and Dusty Robotics were three robotics companies that stood out in this year’s survey,” Lynch said. “FieldAI because it was the most highly rated; BostonDynamics because it was the most adopted; and Dusty because it was the most piloted.” 

It was this feedback, in fact, that led to both FieldAI and BostonDynamics being named as finalists for the 2026 Contractor’s Choice Awards—an award FieldAI ultimately won.
