Sheetrock Brand UltraLight Panels first and only ICC ES compliant panel for ceilings

The weight has been lifted, again. Panels approved for both walls and ceilings.

USG Corporation, a leading building products company and the industry innovator in lightweight drywall, is pleased to announce that its award-winning SHEETROCK® UltraLight Panels are now ICC Evaluation Services compliant for installation on ceilings with the long edges parallel to the framing.

“SHEETROCK® Brand UltraLight Panels, already the lightest 1/2" panels available on the market today, just got even better,” said Diane Earll, senior director, wallboard product management, USG Building Systems. “We are thrilled that our customers can use just one lightweight panel for walls and ceilings, creating less waste and faster installations.”

SHEETROCK® Brand UltraLight Panels are the only lightweight wallboard on the market today that is International Code Council Evaluation Services compliant under report number #3365 (ICC ESR-3365) for installation on ceilings with the long edges parallel to 24" O.C. framing with overlaid insulation and water-based textures. The panels remain up to 30 percent lighter, making them easier to carry and install, without sacrificing the high quality of the SHEETROCK® brand.

“For 110 years, USG has been leading the innovation of new building materials,” Earll says.  “Our SHEETROCK® Brand UltraLight Panels are yet another example of our ongoing commitment to improve safety, efficiency, and the use of green materials in the construction industry.”
Lighter weight, superior sag-resistance and greater strength are just some of the advantages of SHEETROCK® Brand UltraLight Panels.

Additional benefits include:

  • Cleaner score and snap
  • Complies with International Building Code and ASTM C1396 requirements for 1/2" gypsum wallboard and 1/2" gypsum ceiling board.
  • Up to 30 percent lighter or 15-24 pounds less per panel depending on length.
  • Made with up to 95 percent recycled content and save approximately 20 percent in fuel consumption because more can be shipped per truck. In addition, the panels qualify as a low-VOC emitting material.
