New Facility Management Credential Courses being offered at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill.

August 11, 2010

(DeKalb, Ill. – January 23, 2009) -  Northern Illinois University is now a licensed provider of the Certified Facility Manager® (CFM®) and Facility Management Professional® (FMP®) credential competency courses through the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).  Beginning in February, there will be eleven different courses offered at NIU’s convenient state-of-the-art Conference Center in Naperville, Illinois.

The courses will cover all aspects of facility management, including a review session.  Topics to be covered include:

• The Business of Facilities Management
• Finance
• Real Estate
• Planning and Project Management
• Operations and Maintenance
• Quality Assessment and Innovation
• Human and Environmental Factors
• Leadership and Management
• Communication
• Technology
• CFM Review

"After two years in development with the Chicago Chapter of IFMA, we are so proud that NIU is now able to provide IFMA's Core Competency Courses, “ said Ester Diamond, Regional Director of Facilities & Office Services, Lack Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP. “  Whether to prepare for the CFM exam, earn the FMP designation, or just enhance your professional skill-set in specific areas of knowledge, this is a great new opportunity for facilities professionals in the Chicago area.”

This is a one-of-a-kind program that will offer something for facility managers at all levels, from entry level professionals seeking to learn more about the functional areas of the business, to those preparing to sit for the CFM exam or those seeking their FMP credential. The courses can be taken as a refresher or to gain knowledge in a functional area.  It is not required to be a CFM or FMP candidate to participate in the courses.

This program was made possible by many financial supporters including lead financial contributor Grainger, a leading distributor of facilities maintenance products.  In 2008, Grainger contributed $15,000 to help with the creation of the program, specifically in helping to market the program and offset the cost of textbooks. The gift reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to technical education.

Other financial contributor include Perkins + Will, Hester Painting and Decorating, KBA Lease Audit Services, Continental Electrical Construction Company, Cover, LLC, Midwest Office Interiors, Inc., Chase Cost Management, Inc., Johnson Controls, Inc.
