New European laws on timber will go into effect in March 2013

A new European Union timber regulation prohibits the “placing on the market of illegally harvested timber or timber products derived from such timber.”

A new European Union timber regulation prohibits the “placing on the market of illegally harvested timber or timber products derived from such timber.” The law covers a broad range of timber and timber products including solid wood products, flooring, plywood, sheets for veneering, pulp, and paper.

It is the first piece of legislation in the EU to prohibit the trade in illegal timber.
