The city of Nashville, Tenn., is promoting the installation of green roofs through a measure providing a $10 reduction in a property's sewer fees for every square foot of vegetative roof. Green roofs can capture about 55% of rainfall and prevent that water from reaching the stormwater system, according to the city. Vegetative roofs are catching on at some buildings, such as Music City Center, which has plants on 28% of its 14.5-acre roof.
