Accelerate Live! talk: From micro schools to tiny houses: What’s driving the downsizing economy?

May 30, 2018

SUMMARY
In the budding micro-living movement that is occurring in cities across the U.S.—from Seattle to Austin to New York—Stantec Architects stands out as one of the pioneering design firms behind the idea of living with less.

As a growing number of cities struggle with adequate housing options, especially market rate and affordable housing, the micro unit offers a novel solution.

But this micro movement extends beyond housing. We’re seeing it with hotels, offices, student housing developments, even K-12 schools.

In this 15-minute talk at BD+C’s Accelerate Live! conference (May 10, 2018, Chicago), micro-buildings design expert Aeron Hodges, AIA, explores the key drivers of the micro-buildings movement, and how the trend is spreading into a wide variety of building typologies.
