IMP Retrofit Combines Flat and Profiled Panels at Lenexa Old Town Activity Center
As the heart of Lenexa, Kansas, the Lenexa Old Town Activity Center has long served as a central gathering space for community events. To meet the growing demand for space and enhance its ability to serve the community, the center underwent a major renovation and expansion.
The addition of 23,000 square feet included a new east wing for over 50 city programs and a renovated west side with 1,300 square feet for larger program sizes. The aging façade was replaced; a 900-square-foot mural enhanced the building’s visual appeal.
To further enhance the envelope’s visual appeal, architect Multistudio selected Kingspan’s Designwall Series and combined flat panels and profiled panels to achieve a multi-faceted look. Standard Sheet Metal installed a total of 4,645 square feet of Kingspan QuadCore Designwall 4000 panels in a Champagne Bronze color, evoking a sleek and sophisticated look.
For enhanced texture, Multistudio turned to Kingspan’s QuadCore B Designwall R Series, which utilizes two distinct profile options for added design dynamics. At Lenexa, installers created this dynamic look with QuadCore B Designwall R Series panels in Weathered Zinc, Silversmith and a custom copper. With 7/8” deep ribs, this profiled panel adds depth for a modern, engaging exterior.
In addition to their visual appeal, these IMPs with QuadCore® Technology – Kingspan’s next generation of self-blended hybrid insulation core – offer R-values of R-8.0 per inch. This strong thermal insulation helps to reduce the building’s energy consumption and keep the building cool in summer and warm in winter, providing a comfortable environment for occupants while minimizing heating and cooling costs.
“This is a fresh chapter for Old Town,” Logan Wagler, director of Lenexa Parks and Recreation, said. “With its mix of indoor and outdoor amenities, this center will be a cornerstone for connection and common interests, a parent enrolling your child in camp, or a resident looking for a place to gather and play. This new space will provide something for everyone.”
