August 11, 2010

SmithGroup, one of the nation's leading architecture, engineering, planning and interiors firms, has been selected to design a new Cancer Research Building for Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center’s (LSUHSC) Shreveport campus.

The new facility will provide an innovative and flexible interdisciplinary biosciences laboratory for the clinical research of new discoveries in cancer and translation to clinical care. The 7 story, 100,000-square-foot structure will contain a state-of-the-art open laboratory environment with support space for 35 principal investigators. The Cancer Research Center will include highly collaborative common areas for lobby, seminar, administration and building support to accommodate the growing needs of the LSUHSC-Shreveport.

“SmithGroup's design approach reflects the University’s values and its focus on providing an innovative, intellectual clinical sciences environment that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration.” said Andy Vazzano, Senior Vice President and Science and Technology National Practice Leader.

The target date for completion of the new cancer research building to accommodate the expanding research of LSUHSC-Shreveport is early 2012.
