One of the biggest issues in healthcare reconstruction is balancing the construction work with the hospital’s need to maintain 24/7 operations. As the nation’s 14th largest healthcare construction firm (according to BD+C’s 2016 Giants 300 rankings), Clark Construction Group is well versed in dust- and infection-control techniques.
On a recent renovation project at Inova Health System’s Fair Oaks (Va.) Hospital, Clark pilot-tested a reusable infection-control barrier that greatly minimized the amount of hours and labor required to assemble and disassemble the barrier walls. The Edge Guard system (www.edge-guard.com) was specified for several hundred linear feet of infection-control partitions that needed to be built and disassembled during several phases.
Clark’s Senior Superintendent Brian Hetherington desired something more efficient than traditional drywall assemblies. He says Edge Guard was a great solution because it could be assembled and disassembled by virtually any project team member using just a ladder, and without generating dust. The system also integrates ICRA barrier requirements, including pressure monitoring, notices, security, and filtration.
