Oregon State University plans to create a healthy, sustainable environment for international students at its newest residence hall. Opening in the fall of 2011, the $32 million, six-story residence hall will have 350 beds in single- and double-occupancy rooms, as well as space for retail, classrooms, labs, a coffee shop, and an auditorium. Seeking LEED Gold, the Portland branch of architectural firm Mahlum has designed the facility to use solar-powered hot water, heat-recovery ventilation systems, and a thermally improved exterior wall system to reduce air infiltration.
