A joint venture of two Denver design firms, David Owen Tryba Architects and RNL Design, has been selected through a design/build competition to provide architecture and engineering services for Denver's new Civic Center Office Building. Greeley, Colo.-based Hensel Phelps Construction Co. will be the general contractor. Mile High Development is the owner. The 680,000-sq.-ft. building, which will consolidate city and county agencies, is scheduled for completion in 2002.
Atlanta-based architect Lord, Aeck & Sargent is architect for a 157,000-sq.-ft. classroom building at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Winter Construction Co. of Atlanta, the low bidder from a field of six approved firms, was named general contractor. The building is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2002.
New York City-based architect Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn is architect, in collaboration with Philadelphia-based architect Bower Lewis Thrower, for a 572,000-sq.-ft. entertainment/-retail development at Penn's Landing on the Delaware River in Philadelphia. The project will include a 20-screen movie theater and the new home of the Philadelphia Children's Museum. Turner Construction Co. is the general contractor. Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group is the developer.
St. Louis-based Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, in association with Henneman Raufeisen and Associates of Champaign, Ill., is architect for a 72,000-sq.-ft. Motorola design center in Champaign. Homewood, Ill.-based Graycor is the general contractor for the two-story facility.
Koubek Architects of Washington, D.C., is architect for a 14-story office building to be built near Washington's Union Station. The mid-Atlantic division of Dallas-based Centex Construction Group is contractor for the 330,000-sq.-ft. building, to be leased by the U.S. General Services Administration.
Albany, N.Y.-based Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture & Engineering will renovate the 137,000-sq.-ft. Chemistry/Biochemistry Building at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County. Constructed in the late 1960s, the building will remain operational throughout the renovation, which is expected to increase usable space.
