This $ 400 million project involves the redevelopment of a former department store into a 1.5 million-sq.-ft. urban mixed-use center in San Francisco. It includes restoration of the building's historic facade, and construction of retail, entertainment and office space, and a 20-story hotel. Status: This project is in the schematic design development phase, headed by the Los Angeles office of Baltimore-based A/E RTKL Associates. It will be the focus of 'Project Chronicles' next month.

Union Pacific Center
Omaha, Neb.

Accommodating a workforce of 4,100 people, the 19-story, $ 260 million Union Pacific Center in downtown Omaha will consolidate employees from 10 locations in the city as well as from St. Louis. The 1.1 million-sq.-ft. facility will feature a glass facade and will incorporate modern technologies and workplace design, such as daylighting strategies.

Status: Union Pacific Center is in the design development phase. It will be the focus of 'Project Chronicles' in March.
