The Coated Fabrics and Film Association-Vinyl Roofing Division (CFFA-VRD), the trade association for the PVC (vinyl) roofing industry, has ramped up efforts to promote recycling in recent years. The recycling figures for 2025 demonstrate that these efforts are coming up big.

Last year, nearly 30 million pounds of pre-consumer and over 7 million pounds of post-consumer PVC single-ply roof membranes were recycled. Those numbers are up from, respectively, 22.8 million pounds and 2.9 million pounds in 2024.

CFFA-VRD has expanded its recycling efforts into two fronts: Pathway to Zero for pre-consumer materials, where the industry already has a stellar record, putting more than 99.5% of production scrap back into raw materials, and Pathway to Circularity for post-consumer materials, where recycling success depends on coordination across the full project lifecycle. To that end, Pathway to Circularity focuses on educating recycling stakeholders on how to recycle PVC roofing and creating support materials that make it easier to do so (including a get-started video and line-item bid form).

The 2025 figures, which show post-consumer recycling more than doubled in just a year, demonstrate significant momentum. The 30% gain in pre-consumer recycling represents meaningful progress toward minimizing production waste and maximizing material recovery.

PVC roofing has a proven track record of recyclability, as it can be reheated and reprocessed without losing key physical properties. Industry best practices have long reintegrated production trimmings and scrap back into manufacturing. Post-consumer recycling has been active for more than two decades, and the industry’s two Pathway initiatives are driving faster, broader adoption across both pre- and post-consumer streams.
