Firm Announcements

Philadelphia-based architect/engineer Kling Lindquist has opened an office in Raleigh, N.C. The firm has also changed its name to Kling to better reflect its integrated architecture, engineering and interior design services.

Graycor, a major commercial builder headquartered in Homewood, Ill., has acquired Capitol Construction Group, a Wheeling, Ill.-based contractor specializing in commercial construction.

New York City-based consulting engineer Syska Hennessy Group has acquired the San Diego engineering firms of Van Buuren Kimper Engineering and Ericson Lighting Design. The San Diego office will be headed by senior vice president Phil Trinh.

New York City-based engineering firm Thornton-Tomasetti Group has acquired Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based Knezevich & Associates, which specializes in the evaluation and design of hurricane-resistant building components.

San Francisco-based contractor Swinerton Inc. has acquired Lyda Constructors Inc. of San Antonio, Texas.

The Texas practice of Chicago-based A/E Perkins & Will has merged with Dallas-based architect Collins/Reisenbichler.

Indianapolis-based A/E BSA Design has opened an office in Charlotte, N.C.

Marlton, N.J.-based construction manager Hill International Inc., has acquired the Public Buildings Group of Day & Zimmermann International Inc., a Philadelphia-based construction manager and engineer. The Public Buildings Group provides construction management to primarily government agencies.

People in the news

Philip Meathe, 76, former chairman and CEO of SmithGroup Inc., Detroit, died on Sept. 17 of heart failure. Meathe worked at the Detroit-based architectural and engineering firm for 23 years.

FKP Architects, Houston, has named Douglas C. Frank senior vice president.

V. Banavalkar, H. Mahendra and Vimal Parikh have formed structural engineer Ingenium Inc. in Houston. Both were formerly with CBM Engineers.

Stuart Graham has been named president and CEO of contractor Skanska Group. Graham, who has overseen Skanska's U.S operations, will relocate to corporate headquarters in Stockholm.

Arthur Kornberg, formerly a vice president with Barney Skanska USA, has joined J.A. Jones Construction Group in New York City as a vice president.
