Architect Cindy Shonaiya has 30 years of professional experience spanning three continents. A senior living specialist and HCM’s Senior Living & Affordable Housing Market Sector Leader, she has been team leader and principal-in-charge on a number of senior living, multifamily, and affordable housing projects, including the award-winning Brightview West End, Bethesda, Grosvenor, and MonteVerde and Clare Court Convent & Apartment projects.
Shonaiya’s strengths lie in her ability to successfully incorporate outstanding design and sustainable practices within her projects, while maintaining and exceeding her clients’ budget expectations. Her passion is to motivate and mentor the next generation of architects. She leads HCM’s Student Engagement Committee and runs its successful Design Discovery Day and Resume & Portfolio Workshop events.
She is the current chair of the Maryland Board of Architects, and also serves on Hord Coplan Macht’s Board of Directors, the Board of Volunteers of America of the Chesapeake & Carolinas, the American Institute of Architects Design for Aging Leadership Group, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Licensure Research & Development Committee, is a regular jury member at the Morgan State University School of Architecture, and was recently recognized by the Daily Record as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women.

Mohamed Mohsen possesses a highly developed eye for design, a strong technical background, and a solid understanding of the economics of real estate development. With 20 years of professional experience and a diverse project portfolio, Mohsen has extensive expertise in the off-campus student housing, educational, institutional, mixed-use, and hospitality markets. Together, these strengths allow him to provide the leadership and critical thinking that have yielded international recognition and numerous prestigious awards including the Urban Land Institute (ULI)-Atlanta Development of Excellence Award.
The ability to listen, to balance competing demands, and to analyze complex project parameters have served Mohsen in developing architectural solutions that are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and exceed client expectations. His consistent leadership and clear communications help the project team remain attentive to overall goals throughout the design development process.
He is a graduate of Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt, with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned a Master of Architecture. He came to NBA in 2002, is a 2015 alumnus of Atlanta’s Urban Land Institute Center for Leadership class and frequently serves as a panelist at national student housing events. His interest in implementing new architectural software and technologies has helped increase productivity at the firm. He serves on various internal committees and is deeply involved in recruiting, mentoring and training junior staff.
