Marine Corps bachelor housing strives for LEED-NC Gold

Suffolk Construction Co. has completed work on a new 200-bed housing facility at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Ga. The 63,062-sf Bachelor Enlisted Quarters includes a noncommissioned officer bunk, laundry room, kitchen, barracks office, bicycle storage, and exterior washdown areas, plus an 8,000-sf common space with a movie theater, pool and air hockey tables, foosball, and seating areas.

Indianapolis-based CSO Architects designed the $15 million building, which is currently awaiting LEED Gold certification. Sustainable features: efficient heating and cooling systems, low-wattage lighting, water-conservation units, photovoltaic panels, and solar hot water technologies.
