A new hotel being constructed at the intersection of Bowery and Delancey in New York City will stand as the largest modular hotel in the city once it is completed in March.
The 20-story, 300-room hotel being constructed at 189 Bowery comprises 210 prefabricated pods that were built in Poland by Polcom Modular and shipped to New York to be stacked.
Modular construction allows for improved quality control and also speeds up the construction process compared to traditional construction methods by two to five months. Additionally, according to Curbed New York, by using modular construction on the 185 Bowery hotel project the number of truck trips to the site can be reduced by 1,200 compared to traditional building methods.
The hotel will open to guests in mid-2017. CitizenM is co-developing the site with Brack Capital while Rinaldi Group is the project’s construction manager.
