HRI Properties, New Orleans, is restoring and converting the long-vacant King Edward Hotel in downtown Jackson, Miss., into a 186-room Hilton Garden Inn that will also include 64 apartment units, 187 on-site parking spaces, and 2,910 sf of retail space. The hotel and apartment project represents an $82 million investment jointly developed by HRI, Jackson developer David Watkins, and New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister, who grew up near Jackson. HRI has developed two Hilton-brand hotels in New Orleans, one in Shreveport, La., and another under construction in Richmond, Va.
