Kawneer introduces horizontal sliding configuration to the OptiQ Ultra Thermal Window Series

The newest AA™5450 Series window completes family of innovative high thermal performing OptiQ™ windows

By Kawneer | September 23, 2014

Kawneer Company, Inc., an Alcoa business and the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for commercial construction, introduces its new AA™5450 Series Window. Now available in a horizontal sliding configuration, the new window completes the family of OptiQ™ Ultra Thermal Windows and continues to deliver the best-in-class thermal performance that the high-performing window series is known for.

The Ultimate Thermal Intelligence Solution
The AA™5450 Series Window is the outcome of a lasting partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy. Designed to accommodate the increasing demand for high performing building products and solutions, the thermal performance of the AA™5450 Series Window meets or exceeds the minimum requirements for the Architectural Window performance class. Utilizing the groundbreaking design features and customization options found in the portfolio of OptiQ™ Ultra Thermal Windows, the AA™5450 Series Window maintains thermal continuity, reduces thermal transmission and helps maintain interior comfort.

A polyamide thermal break allows OptiQ™ Ultra Thermal Windows to achieve higher thermal performance, which is further enhanced by accommodating 1-inch double pane or 1-1/2-inch triple pane insulating glass. The alignment of the insulating glass unit with the thermal break allows the window to maintain thermal continuity. Made from aluminum, the AA™5450 Series Windows will never rot, warp or buckle due to moisture and weather exposure, and provide outstanding condensation resistance. Superior thermal efficiency makes the window ideal for buildings seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification with the U.S. Green Building Council.

Brains and Beauty
The AA™5450 Series Window combines good looks and intelligence to deliver an inspired aesthetic. Generating a high level of thermal performance from its 4-5/8-inch frame depth, the AA™5450 Series Window’s minimal sightlines provide a sleek, sophisticated appearance. A dual color option offers the flexibility to vary interior and exterior finishes, enabling designers to coordinate and accent multiple settings. In addition to the new horizontal sliding window, the AA™5450 Series Window is available in several configurations, including fixed, single-hung and double- hung. Both single- and double-slide options make a number of ventilation scenarios possible to meet a wide range of building conditions. To satisfy thermal requirements across many geographic regions, the AA™5450 Series Window provides the ability to add or remove thermal options based on performance and cost requirements.

OptiQ™ Ultra Thermal Windows will be featured during the 2014 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in New Orleans, October 22 - 24 in Kawneer’s exhibit (booth #2839). Vitro Architectural Glass Lowers Embodied Carbon Further, Releases NEW Environmental Product Declarations

Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) has published updated versions of its Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for both flat and processed glass. These updates reaffirm that Vitro’s glass products contain less embodied carbon than the industry standard for architectural glass products and indicate a lower embodied carbon value than previously reported in 2017 editions of these EPDs.
