Jones Lang LaSalle ends 2008 With 325 USGBC LEED Accredited Professionals; other employees hold BREEAM, Green Star and NABERS Energy accreditation in 10 countries
CHICAGO, LONDON and SINGAPORE, January 14, 2009 – Jones Lang LaSalle, the leading integrated financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate, recently passed a milestone in its efforts to become the acknowledged leader in the environmental sustainability services sector. On December 29, the company welcomed its 300th colleague as a sustainability accredited professional. By year end, the total had risen to 333, including 325 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® Accredited Professionals (LEED® APs) and eight others accredited by BREEAM, NABERS Energy (formerly ABGR) and Green Star.
Jones Lang LaSalle’s Global Sustainability Commitment, announced in April 2008, included the goal to increase its number of accredited professionals to 200 in 2008 and to 500 by the end of 2009. In celebrating 333 accredited professionals, the firm surpassed its 2008 target by 65 percent.
The majority of accredited professionals are located in the US; however, Jones Lang LaSalle also has LEED APs and accredited professionals in Australia, India, Singapore, China, Germany, the UK, Mexico and Hong Kong. The firm is involved with over 116 LEED registered or certified projects worldwide, including 73 projects totaling 35 million square feet in the Americas region. In addition, Jones Lang LaSalle serves as leasing manager, property manager and facility manager of many LEED certified buildings.
“Our clients increasingly recognize that a resource-efficient building promotes the health and well-being of its occupants, is better for the environment and makes good business sense,” said Lauralee Martin, LEED AP, Global Chief Operating and Financial Officer of Jones Lang LaSalle. “The future of commercial real estate is in sustainable buildings, and LEED accreditation reinforces our commitment to being the energy and sustainability leader in the real estate sector.”
LEED APs can be found in every branch of the company’s comprehensive service capability, including Project and Development Services, Property and Asset Management, Construction, Energy and Sustainability Services, Corporate Solutions, Facility Management, Retail, Tenant Representation, Investment Management, Agency Leasing, Strategic Consulting, Public Institutions and other groups. Within the firm can be found expertise in LEED New Construction (NC), Commercial Interiors (CI) and Existing Buildings (EB) programs, the latter of which is currently transitioning to Operations & Management (OM).
“Our global reach, deep expertise and comprehensive range of real estate services make our firm a strong partner for owners whether they choose to pursue LEED certification or simply to make their buildings perform at peak energy efficiency with minimal financial investment,” said Dan Probst, Chairman of Energy and Sustainability Services at Jones Lang LaSalle.
Sustainability Goals Progressing
Beyond the goal of leading the industry in accredited professionals, Jones Lang LaSalle made substantial progress on other aspects of its Global Sustainability Commitment in 2008. One stated goal, to increase the firm’s investment in energy and sustainability expertise, was advanced by the development of several benchmarking and analysis tools and methods, as well as the expansion of employee expertise training via the newly established Sustainability University.
Jones Lang LaSalle’s ACT: A Cleaner Tomorrow initiative also progressed in 2008 as the firm consistently engaged employees in following sustainable practices, pursued LEED CI certification at several of its U.S. offices, and participated in events such as Earth Day and Earth Hour.
A goal for 2009 is to end the year with at least 500 sustainability-accredited professionals.
