New Richmond High School Awaits LEED Silver Certification

ATS&R planners, architects and engineers Minneapolis, MN, and the New Richmond, WI, School District are awaiting LEED silver certification for the New Richmond High School designed by ATS&R.

Specifically designed for "green construction," the 295,000-square-foot new facility incorporates many sustainable features and elements, including maximization of open space; quantity and quality control in stormwater design; joint use of facilities; water-use reduction and water-efficient landscaping; optimization of energy performance (30+ above code); use of recycled and regional materials; use of low-emitting volatile organic compounds; occupancy lighting control with motion detectors for classrooms and hallways; air-flow control with motion detectors; energy recovery system for classroom ventilation; variable air-volume systems for thermal comfort; carbon-dioxide monitoring and control; modular condensing boilers and variable-speed pumping for cooling and heating water; innovations in green cleaning products and processes; and low-maintenance finishes such as police concrete floors.

This green focus could lead to silver-level LEED certification, according to Daniel Moll, ATS&R's Project Administrator. ATS&R says New Richmond High School would be among a few elite schools in the nation to have LEED for Schools Certification.
