gkkworks, an Irvine, CA-based provider of architectural and construction services, has begun the construction phase of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center for Claremont McKenna College. gkkworks is the construction manager for the $5.5-million complex, which is scheduled to be finished in December.

The eight-month-long project will create about 170,000-square feet of courts, fields and structures. The center will include two buildings for tennis locker rooms, offices and restrooms (4,758 square feet); 12 tennis courts, with concrete-and-block retaining walls (110,000 square feet); and a practice soccer field (56,000 square feet). The tennis complex will be home to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' NCAA Division III men's and women's teams. It will include a championship court with a larger seating capacity than the current facility. The soccer field is a practice field for CMC athletics.

Al McQuilkin is project director for gkkworks; Gary Wier is project manager. The architect is San Dimas, CA-based NTD Architecture. Perera Construction and Design of Ontario, CA, is the general contractor. The Biszantz Tennis Center will be located at the intersection of Sixth Street and Brooks Avenue. It is named for lead donor and former College Trustee Gary Biszantz, class of 1956.
