A new health-education facility in downtown Phoenix is one of several construction projects in the works at Arizona State University.

The $210 million ASU Health building will provide traditional and virtual reality classrooms, healthcare simulation and skills labs, a medical technology innovation suite, and faculty and administrative offices. Building amenities will include community learning spaces, library, and convening spaces.

The 175,000-gsf ASU Health building will house the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, the School of Technology for Public Health, and the professional training programs in the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation and the College of Health Solutions.

In ASU’s downtown Phoenix campus, the Mercado building, which is wrapping up an $8 million renovation, will house ASU Health until the new building opens. Construction on the ASU Health building is expected to begin in July and finish in August 2028.

Other ASU construction projects include the following:

John S. McCain III Library and Museum

Dedicated to the late Arizona senator, the 80,000-sf building will include an immersive museum as well as a library, café, lecture hall, event spaces, and multipurpose space. Construction on the $187 million project is expected to begin in late spring and finish in fall 2028.

Polytechnic campus projects

The Student Union at the Polytechnic campus will be renovated, roughly doubling in size. The $66 million project features the university’s first 3D-printed project: a 1,200-sf market structure that provides shade for people waiting at the campus shuttle stop. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and finish in summer 2027.

Bateman Physical Sciences Center’s H-wing

Now under way, the $115 million project will modernize laboratories built in 1991 while also delivering new labs, infrastructure, and mechanical systems. Completion is scheduled for summer 2028.

Residence halls

On the Tempe campus, three residence halls built in the 1940s and ’50s will be demolished and replaced with a new residential complex. The project’s first phase will deliver about 800 beds by fall 2028.

Desert Financial Arena

A three-year, multiphase renovation of the 1974 arena will replace more than 700 seats and add 200 wider premium chairs. Other upgrades include a new court and renovated locker rooms. The $110 million project will begin this summer and is scheduled for completion by December 2029.
