Texas builders ask ICE to stop immigration crackdown at construction sites
A group of builders from Texas recently visited Washington to ask officials to cease immigration crackdowns on job sites.
The group said ICE raids are leading to higher costs and delayed project schedules. A typical starter home that took four to five months is now taking 8-to-10 months, a spokesman for the group said.
Although the area of south Texas represented by the builders group voted decisively for Donald Trump in 2024, builders in the area believe the Trump Administration has gone too far in enforcing immigration policies, a spokesman said. The group believes the industry cannot sustain the current level of enforcement.
Although the Trump Administration argues that the country does not have a shortage of workers, builders contradict that claim saying that they do not have enough labor to staff certain jobs.
