Cambridge, Mass., home of Harvard University and MIT, leads the rankings of innovation hubs in the Northeast, according to Commercial Café.

The real estate research firm recently released a report on centers of innovation in the Northeast. Cambridge has “the dominant position” with no other entry rating as tops in as many metrics, and it has the highest density of people working for STEM businesses.

Cambridge (15.7M sf) and its neighbor Boston (12.3M sf), dwarf New York and Philadelphia in life sciences office inventories, which have around 4.3-4.4M sf. With more than 100,000 patents, New York City towers above other Northeastern metros in total output of this metric.

Syracuse, N.Y., has the region’s fastest-growing STEM workforce, and Newark, N.J., is first in STEM business growth. Pittsburgh, Rochester, N.Y., and Syracuse, are experiencing a skilled trades resurgence and lead the field in vocational STEM density.
