California legislators make push for prevailing wage law

California lawmakers introduced new legislation that would cut off state construction funds from charter cities that don’t mandate the equivalent of union-scale wages on public-works projects. Of the 482 cities in California, 121 are charter cities. About 70 have already committed to requiring prevailing wages for public works jobs. The proposed legislation is aimed at the remaining 50. The proposed law would punish charter cities that resist prevailing wages by denying them state construction funds for any future projects, regardless of how they’re paying for current projects.
