Green Product of the Week: Brick alternative puts LEED certification on restaurant’s menu

Dec. 1, 2010

Another Broken Egg Café at Evening Rose, a planned community in Tallahassee, Fla., earned LEED certification with the help of CalStar Modular Face Brick. The project used 13,125 bricks, which contain 40% recycled content (mostly fly ash). The bricks are made without firing, resulting in an 85% reduction in CO2 emissions and energy use compared with traditional clay bricks. The bricks install much like standard bricks and feature a traditional variegated color scheme in Autumn Range.
