Warehouse cuts costs

Aug. 11, 2010

The new Costco distribution center in Mira Loma, Calif., incorporates the same daylighting strategy as Costco's retail stores. Designed with 1,050 5-by-6-ft. skylights and 1,640 metal-halide luminaires that adjust to the amount of incoming natural light, the warehouse achieves annual savings of 2.5 kilowatts per square foot, or about $150,000.
